How to Secure Your IoT Infrastructure
On December 15, 2016, ThingWorx is offering a live learning opportunity on the topic of IoT Security. Rob Black, CISSP, senior director of product management at PTC, will review and discuss key IoT security challenges, including:
- Complex device and user interactions
- Inability to provide security updates to devices
- Concerns of hackers finding devices on the Internet
At PTC, Black oversees the direction of the ThingWorx Foundation product portfolio. In addition to his expertise in IoT, he has extensive experience in security, web services, and cloud solutions.
Black is a noted author and blogger on the topic of IoT security. His recent whitepaper “Protecting Smart Devices and Applications Throughout the IoT Ecosystem” looks at IoT security best practices at the device and application level, such as data and network traffic encryption, audit trails, granular permissions and visibility, and secure software development life cycle (SDLC).
His recent post on the ThingWorx blog looks at IoT security after the Mirai botnet attack in which he examines the aftermath of the October 21, 2016 Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack that took down popular sites like Twitter and Netflix. While DDoS attacks aren’t new, the IoT played a large part in this widespread attack since thousands of consumer IoT devices like routers and video cameras were used as malicious endpoints.
