Hands-on Learning at the Dell World 2015 IoT Boot Camp

October 30, 2015

Dell World attendees recently had the chance to learn about IoT app development in a hands-on boot camp, sponsored by Intel and ThingWorx. The day-long session for developers and business leaders—held in conjunction with the Dell World show in Austin, Texas—started with an introduction for developers to the Intel Developer Kit, Dell Gateway, ThingWorx Platform, Dell Boomi platform, and Dell Statistica.

After the introduction, the IoT developers in the boot camp collaborated in breakout sessions to connect their Intel Edison boards to the Dell Gateway, transmit IoT data to the ThingWorx Platform, and build their prototype IoT apps in the cloud.

Business leaders received their own breakout session to discuss the ROI of IoT across several major industries, like automotive, financial services, and manufacturing. The hands-on exercise for this group was to produce an executive briefing for an IoT project. Each briefing was then reviewed by Dell executives who were on hand to provide feedback.

The boot camp brought a general awareness of the IoT to the developers in attendance, and a hands-on look at why the ThingWorx Platform is a leader in the IoT landscape. Business leaders in attendance received an IoT primer and were able to hone their strategy and communication skills for speaking to their executives about the IoT.

The ThingWorx team of Kevin Holbrook, Chris Meringolo, and Simon Belkin led the breakout sessions for both the developers and the business leaders. You can learn insights from our team at Dell World in this post from Chip LeBlanc.
